PolyMod Technologies

Material Testing and Development

Development and testing go hand in hand.  In order to ensure PolyMod® Technologies Inc. supplies you with high quality materials and continues to do so, we have an In-House Material Laboratory.  We can analyze elastomeric and engineered plastic materials as well as finished seals for Research and Development and Quality Assurance purposes.

Our lab is equipped for the purposes of:
•    Determining the relationship between the chemistry and mechanical properties of seal materials
•    Quality Assurance;
•    Material and Seal Problem Solving

In addition to supporting our Production, R&D, and Engineering departments, our world class material test lab can provide its services to you.  We can follow your test protocol or customize one for you to meet your specific requirements.Tensile tester

PolyMod® Technologies Inc.’s accredited laboratory has specialized equipment to perform a range of tests on seals and elastomeric materials and determine chemical and mechanical properties:
•    FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer) to determine chemical composition and degradation of rubber compounds
•    TGA (Thermogravimetric Analyzer) to analyze rubber compounds for their composition, consistency, and  degradation temperature
•    DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimerty) to determine the glass transition temperature, heat capacity, and degree of cure
•    Tensile strength
•    Elongation
•    Modulus of elasticity
•    Specific gravity
•    Volume Swell
•    Density
•    Durometer (hardness)
•    Optical Comparator and Vision System to determine certain dimensional characteristics of various seal products

ASTM Testing Methods include:
•    ASTM D 395 - Compression Set Test, Rubber Products
•    ASTM D 412 - Tension Properties of Vulcanized Thermostat Rubbers and Thermoplastic Elastomers
•    ASTM D 471 - Volume Change, Effects of Liquid Test
•    ASTM D 573 - Deterioration in an Air Oven
•    ASTM D 624 - Tear Strength of Conventional Vulcanized Rubber and Thermoplastic Elastomers
•    ASTM D 865 - Deterioration by Heating in Air
•    ASTM D 1414 - Complete Testing of O-rings
•    ASTM D 2137 - Brittleness Temperature - Low - Used to Find the Brittleness Point of Flexible Polymers
•    ASTM D 2240 - Durometer Hardness
•    ASTM D 1329 – Evaluating Rubber Property – Retraction at Lower Temperatures (TR Test) Test Method for,
•    ASTM D 3418, ASTM E 1356, ASTM E 1545, ASTM E 1640 –Procedures to determine  the Glass Transition Temperature using different test methods.
