Pneumatic Rod Sealing Solutions

 

O-Ring

O-Ring

Double acting elastomer seal for static and dynamic applications and as a cap energizer. 

Can be supplied in a wide variety of elastomeric materials e.g. nitrile, fluoroelastomer, ethylene propylene, neoprene, silicone, fluorosilicone, etc. PolyMod® low friction O-Rings are recommended for most dynamic applications and are available in all materials except silicone and fluorosilicone. UltraMod™ low friction O-rings are the preferred choice for the lowest friction O-Rings in fluoroelastomer compounds.

Temperature range: approximately -178°F to +500°F (-117°C to +260°C), depending on the elastomer choice

Square Ring

Rod Square Ring

Elastomeric square ring for direct contact static seals, cap energizers and in special applications - dynamic seals. These seals have high sealing efficiency and shape stability.  

Available in many nitrile, ethylene propylene and fluoroelastomer formulations. PolyMod® low friction nitrile Square Rings and UltraMod™ low friction fluoroelastomer Square Rings are preferred for dynamic applications.

Operating Ranges

Pressure: up to 7250 psi (50 MPa) and higher, depending on gap sizes

Temperature range: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-54°C to +200°C), depending on the elastomer choice

 

Q-Ring


Double acting seal for static and dynamic applications. Q-Rings have lower friction than O-Rings with increased resistance to rolling in the gland. These can also be used for seals on rotating shafts.

Available in various elastomers. PolyMod® and UltraMod™ low friction Q-Rings are recommended for applications requiring low friction and improved wear. PolyMod® Q-Rings are available in all materials except silicone and fluorosilicone. UltraMod™ Q-Rings are available in fluoroelastomer compounds only.  

Temperature range: approximately -148°F to +500°F (-100°C to +260°C), depending on the compound

 

Back-Up Ring

back-up ring

Provided as part of a seal assembly to prevent seal-extrusion. Back-up rings are generally used with system pressures of approximately 1150 psi (8 MPa) to 10000 psi (69 MPa) and higher. These can be supplied in solid, scarf cut and spiral designs. 

Available in most PolyFluor™ and PolyTel™ materials.

 

U-Cup



Single acting seal for dynamic applications. U-Cups are compact and versatile lip type seals and can be supplied in a wide range of cross sections, diameters, and several configurations, e.g. AN style, rounded or flat lips, symmetric or asymmetric. These designs coupled with the wide range of available elastomer compounds result in a versatile line of sealing devices. PolyMod® and UltraMod™ U-Cups are low friction and long life seals and can be used in tandem with rod wipers or rod scrapers, e.g. PolyEx™ Exclusion Device. 

PolyMod® low friction U-Cups are available in most materials- exceptions are silicone and fluorosilicone. UltraMod™ low friction U-Cups are available in fluoroelastomer compounds only.

Operating Ranges

Temperature: approximately -65°F to +400°F (-54°C to +204°C), depending on the elastomer compound

Pressure: In general, pressures up to 1000 psi (7 MPa); higher pressures possible depending on seal configuration and the use of Back-Up Rings



DeltaMod™ Rod Seal assembly

Rod DeltaMod Seal Assembly

Has a unique geometry to prevent rolling, spiraling and extrusion of the elastomer seal element. The reduced footprint and the PolyMod® or UltraMod™ elastomer provide for both low friction and long wear life while maintaining excellent leakage control. These seals have also been used in some rotary applications.  These assemblies can be used in standard O-Ring glands. PolyMod® low friction DeltaMod™ Rod Seals are available in most materials- exceptions are silicone and fluorosilicone. UltraMod™ low friction DeltaMod™ Rod Seals are available in fluoroelastomer compounds only. The back-up ring elements are available in most PolyFluor™ and some PolyTel™ materials.

 Operating Ranges

 Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 10 ft/s (3.1 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-54°C to +200°C), depending on the elastomer compound

Pressure: Can seal pressures up to 6500 psi (45 MPa)



PolyTee™ Rod Seal assembly

Has a unique geometry to prevent rolling and spiraling of the elastomer seal element. Traditionally this type of seal has been used primarily as a static seal but it works well dynamically as the PolyMod® or UltraMod™ elastomer provides for both low friction and better wear life as compared to conventional T-Seals.  PolyTee™ Seal Assemblies can be used in standard O-ring glands.

PolyMod® PolyTee™ Rod Seals are available in most materials- except silicone and fluorosilicone. UltraMod™ PolyTee™ Rod seals are available in fluoroelastomer compounds only.  The back-up ring elements are available in most PolyFluor™ and some PolyTel™ materials.

Operating Ranges

Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 4 ft/s (1.2 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-54°C to +200°C), depending on the elastomer compound

Pressure: Can seal pressures up to 6500 psi (45 MPa)

 

Rod Glide Ring

Double acting seal for rods subjected to dynamic loads. The Rod Glide Ring has low friction, no stick-slip, minimal break-out forces and is wear-resistant. It can be installed with an O-Ring energizer or, for more even sealing force, a Square Ring energizer.

Rod Glide Rings are available in most PolyFluor™ and PolyTel™ materials.

Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 49 ft/s (15 m/s)

 Temperature: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-54°C to +200°C), depending on the elastomer energizer compound

Dynamic Pressure: up to 11500 psi (80 MPa)

 

Rod Buffer Ring

Single acting sealing element for sealing dynamically stressed rods. The Buffer Ring is used together with an O-Ring as an assembly. It is easy-moving, has no stick-slip effect, and is wear-resistant. In higher pressure systems it buffers the pressure to prevent seal damage and minimize leakage. Optimum sealing properties are achieved with a tandem arrangement with a PolyEx™ exclusion device. 

Rod Buffer Rings are available in most PolyFluor™ and PolyTel™ materials.

PolyCap™ Rod Seal Assembly

Double acting seal for rods subjected to dynamic loads that fits into standard O-Ring grooves. It uses an O-ring energizer. For longer seal life, it is recommended that a PolyMod® or UltraMod™ low friction O-Ring be used.  The PolyCap™ moves easily, has no stick-slip effect, and is wear-resistant.

PolyCaps™ are available in most PolyFluor™ materials.

Operating Ranges

Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 49 ft/s (15 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-54°C to +200°C), depending on the elastomer energizer compound

Dynamic Pressure: up to 5000 psi (35 Mpa)

 

FluoroCap™ Rod Seal Assembly

Has a unique elastomer energizer geometry that allows for a thicker PolyFluor™ cap and distributes seal force over a broader area. This serves to reduce friction and extends service life beyond that for the PolyCap™ Seal. It is recommended primarily as a reciprocating seal, but it can be used in some rotary, oscillating and static applications.

FluoroCaps™ are available in most PolyFluor™ materials. The elastomer energizer is available in a wide variety of elastomeric materials.

FluoroFlex™ Rod

Single acting sealing element comprising a PolyFluor™ U-shaped ring and a metal spring energizer. It is a low friction seal with no stick-slip effect and is wear-resistant. The FluoroFlex™ seal is resistant to most liquids and chemicals. It can be used to seal rods subject to dynamic and static loads.

FluoroFlex™ seals are available in most PolyFluor™ materials.

Operating Ranges

Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 49 ft/s (15 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -238°F to +440°F (-150°C to +225°C)

Pressure: up to 6500 psi (45 MPa)

 

ElastoFlex™ Rod Seal

A single acting U-shaped PolyFluor™ seal with an O-Ring utilized as an elastic spring.  It is used for rods subjected to dynamic and static loads.  It has low friction, no stick-slip effect, and is wear-resistant.

ElastoFlex™ Rod seals are available in most PolyFluor™ materials and the O-Ring element is available in a wide variety of elastomeric materials.

Operating Ranges

Speed: reciprocating motion up to approximately 49ft/s (15 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -65°F to +392°F (-60°C to +200°C), depending on the O-Ring compound

Dynamic Pressure: up to 8700 psi (60 MPa)

 

PneumoSealing System

Rod Sealing system designed for pneumatic cylinders.  This sealing system is suitable for oil-free and dry air - No lubrication is necessary.  It has minimum friction and high service life. This sealing system consists of a PneumoSeal Glide Ring with O-Ring, a Rod Wear Ring and a PolyEx™ exclusion device with O-Ring - available only as a unit. 

Operating Ranges

Speed: up to 16 ft/s (5 m/s)

Temperature:-40°F to +175°F (-40°C to +80°C);                             Maximum temperature: +230°F (+110°C), depending on the elastomer compound

Pressure: up to 360 psi (2.5 MPa)

 

FluoroDiamond™ Rod Wear Ring

Rod wear rings are used to guide the rod in the cylinder. FluoroDiamond™ refers to a special surface structure which is provided on the sliding surface only.  The advantages are improvement of the lubrication properties, no stick-slip effect, higher load capacity and wear-resistance.

Rod Wear Rings are available in most PolyFluor™ and some PolyTel™ materials.

Operating Ranges

Speed: up to 49 ft/s (15 m/s)

Temperature: -76°F to +392°F (-60°C to +200°C)

Permissible surface pressure: maximum 6600 psi (46 MPa), depending on temperature

 

PolyEx™ Exclusion Device

Double Wiper with O-Ring energizer that provides extremely good sealing and wiping action both inside and outside the system. PolyEx™ is suitable for robust applications. It has effective scraping lips and acts as a secondary seal. PolyEx™ Exclusion Device is available in several PolyFluor™ materials.

Speed: up to 49 ft/s (15 m/s)

Temperature: -76°F to +392°F (-60°C to +200°C), depending on O-Ring compound


PolyMod® and UltraMod™ Oil Seals

Radial lip seal for shafts and spindles.  These consists of an elastomer sleeve, metal stiffening ring and a spiral tensioning spring. PolyMod® and UltraMod™ Oil Seals provide low friction and long-lasting sealing efficiency. They are self-retaining in open recess housings and can be run dry.

These can be supplied in nitrile and fluoroelastomers.

Operating Ranges

Speed: up to approximately 98 ft/s (30 m/s)

Temperature: approximately -40°F to +350°F (-40°C to +180°C), depending on the elastomer compound

Pressure: up to 7 psi (0.05 MPa)


PolyMod® and UltraMod™ V-Seals

Flexible shaft and bearing seals with an axial lip. These V-Seals fits directly on the shaft and seal axially against a counter face e.g. shaft collars, thrust washers, or the face of a roller bearing. V-Seals provide reliable sealing against dust, dirt, oil, grease etc. PolyMod® and UltraMod™ V-Seals have characteristically very low friction. 

These can be supplied in nitrile and fluoroelastomers.
